2026 South Metro Fire And First Aid Day

Thank you so much for your participation in South Metro Fire Rescue's 4th Annual Scouting Day: Fire & First Aid.

We had an incredible time meeting all of you and enjoyed your enthusiasm throughout each lesson! Make sure to tell your friends so they can come next year!

Children interact with a firefighter, holding a hose, while adults observe on a sunny day. Community event focused on fire safety.

To continue improving this event, we would greatly appreciate it if you could take the time to complete a short survey and provide feedback to our event organizers. Provide Feedback by Clicking Here.

Station 1: Home Fire Safety & Escape Planning

The Home Fire Safety and Escape Planning Station had kids learning about alarm sounds and how to safely escape a home fire. They crawled through simulated smoke and spoke with our dispatchers to better understand when and how to call 9-1-1 in an emergency. Visit our Home Fire Safety page on our Risk Reduction Website for more information.

A group of kids and adults gathered in a room, engaging with a wooden door setup while a man and a woman supervise the activity.
 Station 2: Basic First Aid

Our Basic First Aid Station covered basic medical emergencies, bleeding control, and the kids even built their own first aid kit! They learned which medical emergencies warrant calling 9-1-1, and interviewed our Firefighter Paramedics about what it's like to save lives with South Metro Fire Rescue! Visit our Medical Emergencies page for more information.

Children participate in an event, gathering supplies like first aid kits, while an adult assists them at a table.
 Station 3: Summer Safety

Our Summer Safety Station covered helmet safety, rules of the road, water safety, and campfire safety! With summer coming up quickly, South Metro wants to remind everyone to wear a helmet when riding a bike or scooter, have an adult actively watching when kids are in or near a pool, wear a PFD on the reservoir, and respect our Fire Bans regarding campfire use! Visit our Recreational Fire Safety, Water Safety, Open Water Safety, and Bicycle Safety pages for more information.

 Fleet and Ops Demonstration

Our amazing mechanics work tirelessly to keep our South Metro apparatus "Response-Ready!" Kids had the opportunity to talk to two of our mechanics, Norb and Tom, about what it's like to work on such big and important vehicles!

Engine 43 arrived at the end of our day to show the kids how our firefighters pull hose off the engines to fight fires. The kids got to take pictures with and explore fire trucks, an ambulance, and engines, touch the hoses and feel how heavy they were, and even spray water!
